Congrats to everyone who earned a new belt last Friday! It is always a special time to see how much our students have grown.
At the end of each graduation, Master Edwards of UMAC Briarcliff had an amazing speech that puts every student's martial arts training into perspective. Though the curriculum and lesson is the same, everyone's training is different. Master Edwards referred to all students as a kernel of popcorn. When you take the
bag of popcorn and put it in the microwave, all the kernels are under the same pressure and heat, yet pop at different times. In the end all kernels eventually pop!
As students we are learning and growing at different paces but can achieve the same outcome. It is not a competition where someone will be the winner, the other the loser. It is instead a personal contest where everyone does it for the love of the art and self mastery. With consistency and focus, students can achieve their martial arts goals. What's special about these graduations is the ability for everyone to sit back and see the improvements made
over the last few months!
